Dental Assistant - Melbourne


Provide clinical assistance to the dentist and maintain an efficient and comfortable environment for the patient and our members

Comply with HCF Dental Quality Management System and HCF policies and procedures
Maintain a clean and safe clinical environment
Support the Practice Manager and Dentist in Charge, in actively fostering teamwork and efficient running of the dental centre

KEY FOCUS AREAS

  • Monitor patient day sheet to prepare for patient list as planned and accommodate emergency patients whenever possible
  • Coordinate with dentist to call patient, escort to and from surgery, settling patient in chair, preparing patient for dentist
  • Liaise with reception regarding next appointments and/or payments.


Chair side assisting

  • Correct instrument and material set up for each patient
  • Assist Dentist with all aspects of clinical dentistry
  • Correct procedure and technique in instrument transfer and mixing of materials
  • D4W data entry under dentist instruction
  • Develop radiographs.


Surgery organisation

  • Maintain infection control measures according to Infection Prevention manual
  • Comply with surgery change over procedure for every patient
  • General cleaning and maintenance of surgery
  • Remove contaminated and non-contaminated waste
  • Undertake routine maintenance of equipment and stock
  • Assist other Dental Assistants, in SSU or other areas of the dental centre as required


Sterile supply unit

  • Clean and prepare surgery hand pieces for sterilisation
  • Process contaminated instruments, hand pieces and auxiliary items
  • Prepare and maintain ultrasonic cleaner and steriliser
  • Validate of sterilisation cycles
  • Maintain stock levels
  • Regular surgery rounds to collect contaminated instruments
  • Report any fraudulent behaviour or activity


Work Health and Safety (WHS) responsibilities

  • Cooperate with HCF in relation to activities taken by the company to comply with WHS legislation
  • Comply with WHS policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Adopt work practices that support WHS programs
  • Ensure that any hazardous conditions, near misses and injuries are reported immediately to the manager
  • Participate in meetings, training and other health and safety activities
  • Not wilfully place at risk the health or safety of any person in the workplace



SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Dental knowledge and experience
  • Neat appearance and good personal hygiene
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, tact and diplomacy
  • Demonstrated initiative and common sense
  • Basic computer skills


Desirable

  • Experience in reception duties or interest to be cross trained in this area
  • Qualifications in radiography, sterilising and/or first aid
  • Certificate III in dental assisting
