The Role

As the Welding Inspector, you’ll be responsible for overseeing QA/QC activities related to the fabrication, welding, and testing of high-pressure steel liners, turbine components, and other permanent or high-risk temporary works on the Snowy 2.0 project. This site-based role at Lobs Hole operates on a 14:7 FIFO roster and reports to the Quality Manager, with technical guidance provided by the Senior Welding Engineer.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Supporting the Owner's Quality team in ensuring project delivery meets required quality standards and Employer's requirements.
  • Overseeing QA/QC aspects of welding activities, ensuring compliance with ITPs, approved procedures, and relevant standards across key components such as the Penstock, Draft Tube Liners, and Spiral Case.
  • Monitoring welding processes including temperature control, welder qualifications, and adherence to WPS, performing inspections and attending hold/witness points as required.
  • Liaising with contractors and sub-contractors to ensure proper execution of welding and mechanical installation works, reporting to the Quality Manager and receiving technical guidance from the Senior Welding Engineer.
  • Maintaining a strong commitment to health and safety, demonstrating behaviours aligned with Snowy Hydro Values and SHL Health & Safety policies.
  • Fostering positive working relationships through effective communication, collaboration, and leadership with internal teams and external stakeholders.

What You'll Bring

Certified welding inspection qualifications (IIW or CSWIP), with experience in civil construction or related industries. Strong expertise in inspecting and supervising welding of thick, high-strength steels in both factory and site environments, with hydro experience and pressure vessel compliance seen as a plus. You’ll be skilled in NDE methods, adaptable to change, and a proactive problem-solver, you communicate effectively and work well in multi-disciplinary teams.
