About the role

We’re looking for a sustainability specialist with a passion for driving best practice outcomes across infrastructure projects. As a Specialist – Sustainable Infrastructure, you will be part of the Asset Strategy team within our Assets Planning & Delivery Group.

This 8-month fixed-term opportunity is based at our Leederville office and will see you provide expert technical advice, and support to ensure Water Corporation’s infrastructure is planned, designed, and delivered as sustainably as possible.

What the role will involve

  • Operational Delivery:
  • Support the development of Sustainability Management Plans and Infrastructure Sustainability Ratings for major projects.
  • Manage Infrastructure Sustainability Ratings processes with external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate workshops to align project teams on sustainability objectives.
  • Identify and embed emerging sustainability practices from the infrastructure sector.
  • Track and report on sustainable infrastructure KPIs aligned to corporate goals.
  • Process Improvement:
  • Develop guidelines and methodologies for embedding sustainability into the Asset Acquisition Process.
  • Act as a subject matter expert, supporting teams in integrating sustainability in planning, design and construction phases.
  • Promote consistency in sustainable practices across all infrastructure programs.
  • Stakeholder Management & Communication:
  • Work closely with internal teams, external consultants, contractors and the Infrastructure Sustainability Council.
  • Champion a culture of sustainability and share technical expertise across the organisation.
  • Foster relationships and actively participate in relevant industry groups and committees.
  • Ethics & Compliance:
  • Uphold Water Corporation’s Code of Conduct, Health and Safety policies, and legislative obligations.
  • Demonstrate accountability and integrity in all interactions with colleagues and stakeholders.

Experience and qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary level qualifications in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing and implementing Sustainability Management Plans and delivering Infrastructure Sustainability Ratings for major capital projects.
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks and best practice tools in the infrastructure sector.
  • Demonstrated coaching and consulting skills to guide teams toward sustainability goals.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving abilities.
